2-step verification adds a second check to your login: besides your password you enter a 6-digit code generated on your phone. It is enabled on your account by Elucidate at your institution's request. When it is enabled, the setup starts automatically the first time you log in.

The verification method (authenticator app, or SMS/voice call) is defined by your institution administrator. This article covers the authenticator app; for SMS or voice call see 2-step verification via SMS or voice call.

1. Install an authenticator app

Install Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator on your smartphone from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Any authenticator app that supports time-based one-time codes (TOTP) works as well.

2. Log in to EFI

Go to efi.elucidate.co, enter your email address and password and click Continue. If you have not set a password yet, use the link in your welcome email first (see How to log in to the EFI Platform). A page with a QR code appears.

3. Scan the QR code

  1. Open the authenticator app and choose to add an account (the + button, or Begin setup on first use).
  2. Choose Scan a QR code and allow the app to use your camera.
  3. Point the camera at the QR code on your computer screen. The app registers an "Elucidate" account and starts showing a 6-digit code.

If you cannot scan the code, choose Enter a setup key in the app and type the key shown under the QR code.

4. Enter the code

Type the 6-digit code shown in the app into the login page and click Continue. The code changes every 30 seconds; if it changes while you are typing, wait for the next one and enter that instead.

Tick Remember this browser if you do not want to enter a code on this browser for the next 30 days.

5. Save your recovery code

On the last screen you receive a recovery code. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe: it is the only way to log in if you lose access to your phone. Confirm that you have saved it to finish the setup.

Good to know

  • The codes depend on your phone's clock. Keep automatic date and time enabled on the device, otherwise the codes are rejected (see Wrong or expired code).
  • If you change phones, install the app on the new device before removing it from the old one, or use your recovery code and contact support to reset 2-step verification.
  • If your institution uses single sign-on with Elucidate, contact your company's Elucidate administrator instead.
